Building the Charlton by Porter Davis

We walked through and was able to identify each room, I was a bit worried at slab stage as the space looked so small. We regret not having a tape measure with us to be able to check door heights, height of shower niches, windows etc. 

We did notice one obvious mistake and that was the height of the garage door which should have been 2340mm high (according to our building variation) instead it has been framed at 2040mm. When I raised this with our BC, apparently she had made an error as they can't construct the garage access door to 2340mm high for double storey homes. She will be raising another Building Variation which should see a little credit returned back to us.

Our internal wall paint colour is Wattyl Dhimba which should provide a good contract against the white skirting/architraves and cornices.

If only they offered architraves/skirting and cornices like these I'd be in heaven. We will be trying to find a similar grey to paint our internal walls - love how it makes the white stand out.

These iron doors were our first choice but are no longer available through Corinthian

Sticking to the standard door and having them painted Woodland Grey.

Classic Staircase option 2- We chose a PD Black stain with white risers.

Bathroom Tiles - National Tiles Simplicity Dark Grey - Happy that these were a standard inclusion. We did pay extra to extend tiling to the height of the ceiling.  Hoping it will look something like this.  hope its not too dark - we have chosen this tile for both the floors and walls.

My kitchen inspiration

1. There is a cost involved, in our case it was a couple of hundred dollars to abolish both services (I can't remember exact amount)

2. When you call up your electrical/gas retailer for the forms, don't expect them to send it to you straight away. It took red energy a week to EMAIL me the forms.

3. Gas was abolished in the requested date and electricity was about 1-2 weeks after the requested date. (I know but believe me that is a good result)

Depending on your electrical provider (ours was United Energy) the quote process takes at least 28 days (if your're lucky). For us it took UE over 2 months to provide a quote. (after many phone calls and emails)

The team that work at United Energy are very small and each person who works in that department have specific roles and do nothing else. For example: There is only one lady who does quotes so if you call up chasing your quote and mrs quote lady happens to be sick or on 'training' that day then tough luck!  I think I made that many calls to them I could name each person that worked there. Yup all 5 of them.

So the process is
