FIXING STAGE PART 3 - COMPLETE

Tuesday, October 27, 2015

As usual Porter Davis have been progressing nicely with our build. Our weekly visits to the house have always surprised us with something new. This week we were delighted to see the majority of the cabinetry to our  kitchen, laundry and bathrooms, internal doors and wardrobe doors fitted. Architraves were in the progress of being measured and installed and skirting boards delivered and sitting pretty in the foyer.

This afternoon I got the call from our site supervisor to say that fixing stage is 99% complete (1% of the architraves still to be ordered for some double doors) and even better news is that we are on track to have the house completed for handover before Christmas. Ho Ho Ho.

The Kitchen

Just how I imagined it to be. Just perfect.

It's looking all hamptons like already.

Downstairs Powder/Bathroom

Upgrade: Floating Vanity
Colour: Alaskan.
Finish: Nuance

As standard there is no storage in the powder room but because we have converted it to a bathroom we upgraded to include a vanity and shaving cabinet. The vanity is floating to give the appearance of more space.

Instead of the standard mirror we chose to upgrade to have a shaving cabinet again for storage reasons..

Internal doors

All the internal doors have been fitted. We chose the Corinthian Balmoral Primed Interior Door Featuring 2 Panels in the upgraded height of 2340mm.

The Laundry

Formica Velour - Laundry Benchtop Finish
Postformed D - Moudled Edge
Colour - Snowdrift

Laundry Cabinet Colour - Alabaster.
Handles - Standard

Bathrooms

Laminex in Alaskan with vertical grain
Finish: Natural

These drawers were an upgrade. I personally think you got to have drawers in the bathroom - so handy for your brushes and other bits and bobs.

..what's next?

  • Work is progressing on the garage and alfresco which means hopefully all the hebel work will be completed ready for the render guys to finish their work.
  • Spoke to SS about the rendering and he did confirm that what I saw was just a base coat so no need to panic. They will need to come back and arrange their own scaffolding to complete the render to the bottom half of the house, garage and alfresco followed by a final coat of render. Yippee.
  • Painting will commence on the 4th November and hopefully be finished by the 13th November from which we will commence all the electrical fit outs.
The final stretch is finally here which means I really need to get a move on in sorting out our carpet and floorboard supplier. Its great that we might be moving in by Christmas but that means its also going to be a busy period for these flooring suppliers and other trades we'll need to get in post handover so it might mean a January move in afterall. On the plus side I will be making good use of the post christmas sales to furnish furnish furnish.

    1. Thanks Aussiebell,

I definitely consider the upgrade to be expensive. To upgrade the cabinets it costed us about $7500K. No regrets about it though.

    1. About $1000 for each set. But you get a credit back in lieu of the standard sliding door but not much though.

    1. Hi Lisa

Thanks for your lovely comments. Congrats on the build. WOS is an overwhelming but exciting day!

To upgrade the height of the doors to the max height of 2340mm in the Balmoral 2 panel style it costs approx $226 per door.

The 90mm Sydney Cornices we used costed us $1436, 85mm Replica Skirting costed us $150, 67mm Replica Architraves costed us $76

Keep in mind the pricing is always in lieu of the standard option which you get a credit back for.

      Hope this helps you.

      Have fun @ WOS!
