FIRST LICK OF PAINT

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Painting has commenced in the house and when we saw it last weekend the first coat of paint had been applied to all the walls, trims and doors. According to our site supervisor he estimates a house of our size should take about 8 days.

For our wall colour we have chosen an off white colour called  Dhimba by Wattyl (sometimes known as Flokati) and Wattyl White for all our trims. I remember walking into our colour selections with our hearts set on the ever popular Antique White USA or Chalkdust but turns out these colours are considered to be warmer white tones and not in keeping with my colour palette (according to the World of Style interior consultant) instead we were recommended to go with a cooler tone such as Dhimba, so heck I just agreed and have kept my fingers crossed ever since. Turns out it ain't all bad, I particularly love how it brings out the white in the trims. Take a look...

Love a white laundry

View of Front Entrance. So glad they painted the inside of the front doors white. Helps to brighten up the house. The external side of the door will be painted in Woodland grey.

Bl@@dy Cornice!! Gets me angry. Still need to sort this issue out.

Can I ask you, do you get higher ceilings on any of the floors?

    1. Hi Carole
Thanks. Yes we got the highest possible ceiling height for the ground floor which is about 2.7m.

    3. For upstairs we just went with the standard height which is about 2400mm (approx). In saying that I do regret not upgrading the upstairs to 2550mm.

    4. We are building the same house, and we were wondering the same thing - Do we increase upstairs or don't we!
It all just adds up in the end!
I hope they fix the cornice next to the staircase for you. We went to the display on the weekend and it certainly did not look like that :)

    1. Hi Stuey
I love it too. Our site supervisor is now going to paint his walls the same colour after seeing how ours turned out.

  5. Hi There, your article certainly helped me imagine the colour Dhimba as a neutral white. Thank you ! I am sure you are settled in well and truly in your beautiful house.

We are building a French provincial facade. The exterior render colour suggested by the designer is WAttyl Dhimba. Do you have any knowledge on this as an exterior colour ?

    Thanks and Regards
    Fred
